After going massively viral across China, Chai Jing’s popular documentary, Under the Dome, is quickly being removed from Chinese sites. With estimates of more than 100 million domestic views, it’s anyone’s guess as to why the government would bother to crack down now.
Thanks to a dedicated group of people, led by a grade 12 student from China, the video is staying online and is now available with English subtitles. It appears Youku is adhering to the take-down order, so at the moment only the Youtube video works. Keep your eye on Linghein’s site though for possible updates.
Update: The Beijinger has a rather excellent summary of the film if reading is more your thing (or if the GFW has you down).
