I never would have though it, but BBC has got to be one of the hippest mainstream news outlets out there.
Who else would turn to Gorillaz’ Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn to produce a video, music and overall theme to their Olympic coverage?
Check out BBC’s Monkey Olympics video – very Gorillaz-esque:
The BBC Olympics’ Meet Monkey site also offers more information on Monkey and his two friends – Pigsy and Sandy – as well as a slick desktop app that keeps you updated on your favourite sports, and also allows you to browse the events schedule, and set reminders for events you don’t want to miss.
The whole dubbed Kungfu Monkey fad never crossed the Atlantic and infected my youth like it did my UK friends, but nostalgia value or not, Jamie Hewlett’s animation and Albarn’s music is reason enough to check it out.
Seems to be based on the story of Sun Wukong and the novel “go west”
@Steve: Of course. But the English title is “Journey to the West” – “Go West” was a Petshop Boys song. 🙂
