Alright, it’s done. The Hao Hao Report has received its first official upgrade. We’ve patched up the software and added a few features to make things run a little smoother. Anyone that’s used the system regularly over the last couple months may have noticed a few things that were a bit … hmm… what’s the euphemism I’m looking for… retarded.
So, what has been improved?
- Searching: Before this was somewhat touchy to say the least, but now it works like a charm.
- Profiles: I’ve added user avatars/images to help “personalize” your account. Be sure to upload one.
- Trackbacks: This is a cool feature that lets the site you’re posting about know you’ve posted about it. It sends what is called a ‘trackback’ to the site. These are sometimes displayed by the site in the comments section (WP blogs).
- New Categories: We’ve upped the categories you can submit to. This is likely going to increase a little more in the next few days to better identify the different sites/stories people are submitting.
- The Interface: I’ve touched up the design a bit to make it a little more user friendly. This is on-going.
What’s still there that you didn’t know about?
- The Blogmaster Tools: These are a collection of things you can use to help increase traffic to your site if you run a blog about China. We’ve got simple graphic links, a handy “Hao Hao This!” blogpost add-on (see the bottom of this entry), and also a simple way you can add a “Hao Hao This!” link to your RSS feeds handled through Feedburner.
- Easy Submission Bookmarklet: Login to your Hao Hao Report account (or register for free if you’ve not already), and simply go to your User Profile page. At the bottom of the page you’ll see instructions on how to add this simple little link to your browser so that you can submit stories as you read them anywhere on the web. (This was updated, and it is recommended, but not essential, that previous users of this function update their links/bookmarks)
- Comments: That’s right, we’ve got comments. Leave your thoughts about stories and add to the HHR community.
- Friends: Keep track of what your Hao Hao Report pengyou’s are up to. You can even subscribe to their RSS feed.
- RSS Feeds: Don’t have time to visit the site every day to find out what’s happening? Subscribe to the Hao Hao Report’s RSS feeds, which come in three tasty flavours – All | Popular Stories | New Stories.
