At around 8:30pm on September 6, in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, a taxi was abruptly stopped by an irate woman driving a BMW. She was not happy that the taxi had stopped in front of her to pick up a foreign man and his Chinese companion near the right-hand turn of an intersection. She proceeded to park her car in front of the taxi, preventing it from leaving.
While the BMW driver argued with the taxi driver, the foreign man exited the taxi and confronted the woman. Things quickly escalated, resulting in the foreigner kicking the woman’s BMW — a kick the taxi driver later reported was nothing more than a light bump.
According to witnesses the foreigner remained relatively calm, but the BMW driver began physically attacking him. She grabbed the man’s bag, while shouting, “no, you can’t leave.” A video captured by one of the witnesses and played for the reporter, 王晓飞, showed the BMW owner beating the foreigner with a belt while cursing at him as he bent down to pick up some items he had dropped in the scuffle.
In following up the next day, the reporter learned from police that the BMW driver and the foreigner had settled the dispute between themselves.
